Auditions for The Rocky Horror Show are Monday January 2o, 2014 and Tuesday January 21, 2014 from 6pm-11pm.  Sign up for your time slot now!

Insuring you have a great Rocky Horror Audition

Step 1: Sign up for an audition. Check and double check to make sure you can make the time you sign up for. Realize that we start auditions the night before classes start on January 20, 2014. Sign up for early time slots. Impress the audition committee so much that they cannot get you out of their head. Remember your time because you’ll need it for the other steps. http://tinyurl.com/RockyAuditions

Step 2: Fill out the audition application. This form asks you for your basic information like name, email, and phone number. But it serves to help the audition committee get to know you. It is part of your first impression, so make sure things are spelled correctly and your grammar is precise.  http://tinyurl.com/RockyApplication

Step 3: Download the audition packet and select your solo and monologue. You only get to do one of each so choose wisely. Choose the character you think you can portray the best. Just because you choose one character does not mean that you will not be considered for another character. But we ask that you choose a corresponding solo and monologue. While it is not required to memorize anything, the more familiar you are with things, the more free you are to portray your character.  Rocky Horror Audition Packet

Step 4: Do your research. Read the script, watch the movie, view YouTube videos. The script is written by Richard O’Brien and readily available on the internet. Just do a google search. The competition might be fierce and you want to come into the audition with the best concept of the character you want to be. Think about what you want your character to be like, decide on a course of action, and go with it. A lot of the songs in the audition packet are available on YouTube as karaoke tracks. Put the title of your song in the search bar with “karaoke” or “instrumental” or “sing along.”

Step 5: Practice like a beast! You have all the resources at your fingertips. There is no reason you should walk into the audition room unprepared.  That being said, if you find out about auditions only a day or two earlier, do not that let you deter you. Whatever you do, own it and be confident.

Step 6: Come to the audition heathly. Get some sleep the day before your audition. Shower, eat, and do something fun the day of your audition. Dress professionally for the audition. There is no dancing at the original audition, so you can dress up if you want. However, make sure you are comfortable. A killer actor in a t-shirt and jeans trumps a bad actor in a suit or evening gown any day. Do not forget to smile and introduce yourself to the audition committee. If you have a resume and/or headshot, feel free to bring them with you. One copy is more than enough. If you would like the audition committee members to all have one, bring five.

Step 7: Stay calm and breath. Callbacks will be posted as close to Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 12:00AM as possible. If you are not called back, that does not mean that you are not going to be cast. Also, please be a good sport about things whether you are called back or not. There is nothing worse than someone who rubs a callback in someone else’s face. If you do not end up being cast, please do not let it discourage you from auditioning for other things in the future. Remember, ISM is also doing a Broadway Revue this semester and will have a larger cast with plenty of solos, duets, and group numbers! Also, the director of the Revue and Rocky are working together to insure people can be in both productions.

If you have any questions about auditions please email the director, Christopher Cayari at ISMRocky2014@gmail.com or the Stage Manager, Emilee McArdle at RockySM@illinistudentmusicals.org
